This product is a light weight solution to safely add 18mm to a 1 1/8" carbon steerer. This extender system must be used with a typical 40mm stack height stem so that the lower 20mm of the stem is clamping on the carbon steerer, leaving the 18mm extension plus a 2mm air gap in the upper half of the stem. The steerer must also be cut squarely for the extender to sit flush. A picture of the extender installed in a carbon steer is shown in pic #8.
This is a great solution for any bike with a carbon 1 1/8" steerer which needs a just little bit more steerer stack height. Other extender solutions on the market are typically very heavy and have very long extensions which do not allow the stem to clamp onto the original steerer.
